The A-Z of Racing Cars

Mercedes CLK GTR

Raced in the FIA GT Championship and Le Mans 24 Hours from 1987 to 1998, this car was famous for flipping three times in the Le Mans 24 Hours, once at 180 mph on the Mulsanne Straight. This was due to the back end being set too low, and when a roller in the road combined with a car in front removed the air and thus the frontal downforce, the car performed a black-flip.
