The A-Z of Racing Cars

Bica Votnamis

Bica Votnamis was a Brazilian constructor who built this car, the Caçador de Estrelas. Note that in the above picture, the car is moving from the left to the right.

This one-off special was built around 1965. The V8 engine was imported from the USA, sourced from a Corvette. The chassis was tubular, with aluminium body panels. The car was originally meant to be front engined, but Bico decided to change it and make it mid-engined, necessitating the unusual seating position. The Corvette engine was later changed for a Jaguar unit. However, after first test session the car could not gain homologation due to safety issues, which irritated Bica in the extreme. He used the engine for another car, and the chassis was scrapped.
