... here is a masterpiece (or not..) from Brasil.. probably one of the most evolved Carreteras ever... raced and modified over many years by Camilo "Camilao" Cristofaro, had started out as a '36 Chevrolet and gradually metamorphosed into a 45'' tall racer. This is the car in its mid 60's version.. It did umpteen "Mil Milhas", and did win one or more of them I think..

Powered by an increasingly modified Corvette engine , ended up with a fuel injected Can Am type staggered intake trumpet array poking out of the bonnet... most noteworthy was the liberal use of Maserati 250 parts , and the biggest Borranis with butterfly knock-offs ever produced (not exactly stiff enough to take the cornering loads without deflecting alarmingly!), it ended up racing against Ford GT40's on 14" rims with Firestone blue streaks , ( it was also considerably faster than Bica Votnamis mid engined carretera.)  Camilo also raced a 250F with a corvette engine in mecanica continental..

[DLG] The nose also looks a little like that from a Lotus 7.

was definitely styled off a maser nose.. Camilo loved his masers.. ( I think Colin Crabbe bought one of them , if not Robs Lamplough..)

[DLG] Interesting car though. It looks as though there is no windscreen on the car, so the straight line drag must have been quite high.

I think just reflection and angle of vee shaped screen .. don't remember that race...

Divila - first car he designed was
a blue Corvair mid-engined sports car

..was in page sent to me by friends in brasil re my first car, which I designed for Celidonio, a space frame ally bodied Corvair mid engined sports car... the blue one in top picture... I did the shape first in ply-wood ( rather like an egg-crate), and Piciuto , a funileiro (body man) bashed the shape out in aluminium...  he also did the body in ally for our first F1.. pretty much the same way.. will see if I can recoup some photos this week ed as going for a quick trip to S Paulo to see family...after three and a half years absence.

Also in bunch Tite Catapani, great mate of Emerson , racing one of the Gancia-Zambello ex Alfa -Jolly club Alfas and PV de Lamare in Opala, who went on to win 5 brasilian touring car championships.. this car is the one I had done initially for Toninho da Matta .. Christiano da Matta's father..

As we were racing on the outer circuit at interlagos ( anel externo)we were all racing on Pirelli cinturatos for this race , as we used the (imported ) wide tires only for full circuit racing, hence the rather empty-looking wheel well .. must be on start of main straight, though could also be at the "Juncao" the bit joining the curva quatro to the subida do box...

Divila - First car for
        Fittipaldi's

...and also a shot of my first car for the fittis, with engine and gearbox from a Rsk Porsche... swing axle at rear and all... also on cinturatos... imported tyres only used on major races as too expensive...65 and 66 were very busy times for me , as designed and built 3 cars and was doing two uni courses...plus courting my wife-to-be...

[DLG] I see that the webpage has another picture of the Christofaro car. This time you can see a windscreen, but seemingly only covering half the area, the area in front of the driver. Given the lack of black rubbering around the whole windscreen edge, it would seem as though the car was indeed part open.

Will enquire with the old timers.. I wonder about a broken screen during race , do not remember Camillo running  with half open car, even if for cooling driver compartment , as Mil Milhas usually in November, and quite cold during night , fog was a feature always. How do you like the views of track? It was quite rough, and you had to be careful wandering though infield with the snakes . spiders and scorpions... rumour has it that the central lake (that's what the Subida do Lago was all about, there were two small lakes roughly where curva tres is now ( after the Senna esses , sol corner and curva dois) was paved with DKW engines, that uses to be thrown in it after being changed surreptitiously on track after blow-ups in the fog... a simple two stroke engine overhung from gearbox, could be changed in 5 minutes and weighed something like 40kgs, a snip..

[DLG] Hope you enjoyed Suzuka. Why is it though that Schumacher Sr always seems to screw up final round races so badly??
..interesting to meet all the old pals and catch up with the latest scandal,am glad not back into F1, nearly succumbed again last year, seems the shark pond is getting worse.. Re Schum, he got caught out by light rain in qualifying, and did mighty race, even when caught out and had to pit to change nose... am not a fan but his results speak for themselves.. out now for evening in Tokyo's fleshpots with Krumm, Firman, Montoya's engineer and da Matta, should be interesting, so will be going out, and might be gone some time as Oates said to Captain Scott   cheers Richard

Wednesday 15th October

all is revealed, got answer back from Brasil... the carretera had a broken windshield, rh side during race , but not a problem because it was two panes...   one of the leading Karmann-Guia /Porsches had a long stop due to a broken windshield also , as did many other cars... track condition was rough in those days , lots of stones... regards  Richard

Subject: the bard in the paddock... will let you fill in the rest...

From Titus Andronicus

Thou dost over ween in all (Michael Schumacher)

Foul spoken coward, that thund'rest with thy tongue, and with thy weapon nothing dares perform (Irvine)

What a caterwauling dost thou keep (Paul Stoddard)

As loathsome as a toad (Not Ross Brawn?)

Say wall eyed slave, whither wouldst thou convey this growing image of thy fiend like face (Coulthard)

O most insatiate and luxurious woman (Cora Schumacher)

From As you like it

Her benefits are mightily misplaced (Erja )

What shall I call thee when thou art a man ? (Alonso)

I think he be transformed into a beast; for I can nowhere find him like a man
And in his brain which is as dry as the remainder biscuit after a voyage, he hath strange places
Lets meet as little as we can
(Pollock to Richards)

I desire that we be better strangers
(Richards to Pollock)

I was seeking for a fool when I found you

Certainly, there is no truth in him
(Mosley)

You lisp and wear strange suits
(Alan Henry)

Men are April when they woo, December when they wed
(Bernie?)

From Henry VIII

I can see his pride peep through each part of him
(Ronzo)

He begins a new hell in himself
His will is most malignant
There is mischief in this man
(Wee Tam)

Your heart is crammed with arrogancy, spleen and pride
(Ronzo again)

I abhor this dilatory sloth
You have as little honesty as honour
(Name your own , there are libel laws here)

As goodness is poison to your stomach
You are strangely troublesome
(Paul Stoddard)

Bless me, what a fry of fornication is at the door
(Hotel lobbies at Brazilian GP)

From A Midsummer Night's Dream

Ill met by moonlight
Rash wanton
You heart hearted adamant
Tempt not too much the hatred of my spirit, for I am sick when I do look on thee
I do repent the tedious minutes I with her have spent
What hempen homespun have we swaggering here
If you were men, as men you are in show, you would not use a gentle lady so
Have you no modesty, no maiden shame, no touch of bashfulness
This is the silliest stuff that I ever heard
(Dupasquier to Brawn, before Monza GP)

From King Lear

An admirable evasion of whore master man, to lay his goatish disposition to the charge of a star
I have seen drunkards to more than this in sport
(Panis & Schumacher after race in Suzuka paddock)

What a brazen faced varlet art thou
You whoreson cullionly barbermonger
Thou whoreson zed, thou unnecessary letter
Thou art a boil, a plague sore, an embossed carbuncle in my corrupted blood
False of heart, light of ear, bloody of hand, hog in sloth, fox in stealth, wolf in greediness, dog in madness, lion in prey
(Flavio)

Thou art a traitor, false to thy gods, thy brother and thy father

From Pericles, Prince of Tyre
Courtesy would seem to cover sin
Both like serpents are, who, though they feed on sweetst flowers, yet they poison breed

What a drunken knave the sea was to cast thee in our way
Thou art the rudeliest welcome to this world
He did not flow from honourable sources
The pox upon her green sickness
Thou art like the harpy, which, to betray, dost with thine angels face, seize with thine eagle's talons
Your peevish chastity is not worth a breakfast in the cheapest country
The food is such as hath been belched on by infected lungs

From Henry VI Part 2

Base dunghill villain and mechanical, I'll have thy head.
(Jordan to Durand)

Sit there, the lyingest knave in Christendom
(Team managers talking to sponsors)

A wonder and a pointing stock to every idle rascal
Small curs are not regarded when they grin
(Sauber,Minardi & Jordan)

Beauforts red sparkling eyes blab his hearts malice, and Suffolks cloudy brew his stormy hate
You put sharp weapons in a madmans hands
(drawing office)

Base slave, thy words are blunt, and so art thou
Wedded be thou to the hags of hell
His breath stinks with eating toasted cheese

From Measure for Measure
Thy bones are hollow, impiety has made a feast of thee
Come, you are a tedious fool.
Your bum is the greatest thing about you, so that, in the beastliest sense, you are Pomey the Great
O you beast, o faithless coward, o dishonest wretch. Wilt thou be made a man out of my vice
Thy sin is not accidental, but a trade
(Teams PR persons)

It is certain that when he makes water his urine is congealed ice
(Kimi Raikonnen?)

Silence that fellow, I would he had some cause to prattle for himself
(Frank Dernie)

Away with those giglets
