Won the Irish tarmac rally championship four times.Was flying home from a birthday celebration in County Mayo in a helicopter when it crashed into a woodland at Monea, nr Enniskillen, killing his daughter Emma and son Mark. Bertie died later on Monday night in Belfast Royal Victoria Hospital. He had lived in Gublusk, and ran his won company, Fisher Engineering.

The Targa Florio was born.

1995 - Involved in a huge accident at Indianapolis, where his car split apart, and the front fell off. He was left in a coma for five days, and although he recovered, he was never the same, easily getting tired.
2000 - Killed in a road accident 200 miles south of Auckland, NZ.
