Originally from East Prussia, Zakowski set up Zakspeed in 1968, based in Niederzissen. He entered the team into F1 in 1985, although he wasn't terribly successful. The team won the following titles: Deutscher Rennsportmeister 1973-1976 & 1981; European Touring cars 1974; European Rallycross 1978, 1981 & 1984; Winter Interseries 1984; DTM 1987; Deutscher Meister Formel Renault 1992 & 1994; ITR Gold Cup 1994; ADAC Nurburgring 24 Hrs 1999.

Zborowski, Count Eliot (GB)

Father of Louis, raced in the early 1900's. Finished second in the 1902 Paris-Vienna race in the unlimited class (Mercedes). He was killed in the Nice hillclimb in 1903.


Zborowski, Count Louis (GB)

A millionaire educated at Eton, his father was killed driving a Mercedes on the 1903 Nice hillclimb. Zborowski built three aero-engined cars, using Mercedes chassis. His first car was called Chitty-Bang-Bang 1. 
Zborowski purchased a Grand Prix Mercedes in 1921 which had been impounded in Britain and examined by Rolls Royce during the war, and won a race at the Easter Brooklands meeting, together with three in Chitty-Bang-Bang. He won later races at Brooklands during Whitsun 1921, after which he raced his Ballot and other cars, and purchased an Aston Martin to go road racing. He joined the works Mercedes team in 1924, but was killed on his first drive for them.

During recce before the Rajd Sudecki in Poland, the Mitsubishi Lancer driven by Leszek Korzanowski with co-driver Piotr Zembowicz struck a tree and caught fire. Both crew members were injured and unable to escape from the burning car - they both died in flames.

Competed at Le Mans and in the World Sportscar Championship with his own Euro Racing team, first in a Spice-Ford and later with a Lola-Judd. Also raced for Chamberlain Engineering. He was arrested and jailed for drug dealing, and was found dead in his cell one morning. He had two sons, Ross and Charles Jr, who also raced.
